Session 5: Visual Literacy
We all have received those horribly formatted documents. Comic sans font, no spacing, magenta color - everything that is a teacher's worst nightmare. But the question is who teaches all these skills to the students. By adopting the CRAP principle Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity we all can make documents visually more appealing and meaningful. A simple mini-lesson with the students can help them enhance their presentation skills. This session will walk teachers through how to use the principles of design to make learning more visible and impactful for the learners.

Session 7: Preparing Today's teenagers for the 4th Industrial Revolution, the Disruption of Work.
These days, there is a lot of talk about the 4th industrial revolution -- the disruption of global labour markets. There are a range of forces driving macro shifts in labour markets -- from burgeoning middle-classes in emerging markets, to the role of technology in industry -- and these forces will impact every age group in different ways. But the group that we think about are teens, students who intend to enter the labour markets in the next 4-7 years. For these students, who are already grappling with a post-secondary education landscape that is evolving rapidly in real-time, staying abreast of emerging changes in labour markets is not just important, it is vital. During this session, we will explore the key labour market shifts that will affect Diploma students, and I will propose several concrete strategies for helping these students contextualize higher education and early career thinking within a world whereby the only constant is change.
